SBPD arrests kidnapping and armed robbery suspect at local bank

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF)  On Friday morning, officers from the Surfside Beach Police Department arrested two suspects and detained a third, after a man entered the TD Bank at 300 Highway 17 North stating he needed help because a man with a gun was forcing him to withdraw money.

When officers located the victim, he said three people in the parking lot had kidnapped him at gun point and drove him to the TD Bank so he could withdraw money.  Officers detained the suspects in a vehicle in the parking lot and were able to locate the handgun and a small amount of marijuana.

The victim stated he and at least two other people in the vehicle had smoked crack, consumed cocaine and drank vodka all night at a Myrtle Beach residence.  One of the suspects had a pistol and ordered the victim to go to the bank and withdraw money.  The victim asked the bank employees to use to phone, which they did.

Hurbert Lee Washington of Myrtle Beach was charged with kidnapping, attempted armed robbery, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession of a stolen pistol, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.  Washington was to appear before a bond judge Friday afternoon or evening.
