Brooke Spivey was a Grand Strand native returning home when she joined the WMBF News team. Brooke loved growing up in the Loris community, so she jumped at the opportunity to share in the local events in the Grand Strand and the Pee Dee.

Brooke was a Cougar at the College of Charleston for six years, where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Geology and Environmental Geosciences and a Master of Science in Environmental Studies. Brooke was an active student, becoming a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity, serving as Vice President of Sigma Gamma Epsilon and Secretary of College of Charleston Geological Society.

The news bug didn't bite Brooke until three days into an internship with the EPA in Charleston County, where she produced and hosted a weekly 30-minute environment public service announcement entitled "Living Green." After a year of interviewing local experts, as well as EPA and FEMA officials, on air and water quality issues, Brooke knew that she belonged in a news room. The rush of swimming through caves in the Bahamas, hiking volcanoes in the Southwest and mapping landslides and earthquakes across the globe are a close second to talking about her love for nature to a television audience.

Today you can find Brooke scouting out local events and breaking news in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee to share with you on WMBFNews.com. When she's not in the news room, Brooke is either trying out a new recipe in the kitchen, going for a jog, watching the Florida Gators, or spending as much time with her family and friends as possible.

If you have a recipe or news tip you want to share, email Brooke at bspivey@wmbfnews.com or send her a tweet at @brookelspivey.
