CCU snaps 3 game losing streak, upsets Asheville 74-69

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina had to hold off a late UNC-Asheville charge, but were able to hang on for a 74-69 win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

CCU's Anthony Raffa led all scorers with 20 points for the Chants, including two huge three pointers in the final minutes of the game.

Coastal jumped to a 15 point halftime lead, but UNC-Asheville was able to trim the margin to one point with six minutes left.  CCU responded with a 9-1 run and was able to hang on down the stretch.

The Chants were playing their fifth Big South game in the last ten days, and were riding a three game losing streak heading into the contest.

Also leading CCU was Chris Gradnigo with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Jon Pack added 14 points and 5 boards.

Matt Dickey led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 points, while Jeremy Atkinson added 16 points and 9 rebounds.

UNC-Asheville has already clinched the Big South regular season title, but the loss drops them to 19-8 overall, and 14-2 in the conference.

CCU improves to 18-8 overall, and 11-5 in the Big South. 

Next up for the Chants is their BracketBuster game, where they will host Tennessee Tech on Saturday at noon.
