MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon is only a few days away. It gets started Friday evening with the Ripley's Fun Run.
Since 2003, Seaside Elementary School has brought in the most participants for the event and students there are trying to extend the streak.
The school's goal is to have 650 people sign up for the event.
Right now, 630 runners are registered and if Seaside Elementary School wins, by bringing in the most people to the fun run, it gets something in return.
President of the marathon, Shaun Walsh, said, "For every child or every person who participates in the fun run they can designate a school in Horry County where they want their funds to go back to so we give $2 back of every entry fee back to the school."
For over a decade, Seaside Elementary School has had the most participants sign up.
They were able to buy a climbing wall for the gym with the winnings.
To get kids motivated this year, some teachers say they will dye their hair.
Michelle Arnold, who is a Physical Education teacher, said, "We have about five teachers that if we meet our goal of 650 they will have either hot pink, lime green, red, white, and blue whatever."
Lakewood Elementary School has been Seaside's rival for years.
