(CNN) Driving after smoking marijuana may double your risk of an accident.
That's coming from a new study published in the British Medical Journal.
Canadian researchers looked at several studies on marijuana use and car accidents involving nearly 50,000 people.
They found people who used marijuana within three hours of driving were almost twice as likely to cause a car accident.
Researchers say previous studies also show the risk of an accident was even higher if the driver was 35 years old and younger.
They say drivers under the influence of marijuana may follow cars too close and swerve in and out of lanes.
