HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) Horry County Police have now arrested a man who reported led authorities on a high speed chase in a Hummer Saturday.
According to Lt. Keith Strickland with HCPD, The chase began shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday morning when the Uniform Patrol division spotted a Hummer H2 on Socastee Boulevard with expired tags driven by a man officers recognized and knew to possess a suspended driver's license.
Officers attempted to stop 23-year-old Ross Garret Smith, who pulled onto a dirt road and fled on foot, said Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesperson for Horry County Police Department.
A warrant was issued for Smith's arrest for driving under suspension and failure to stop for blue light and siren.
Wednesday morning, Kegler said Smith had been captured in the Conway area Tuesday night.
Strickland added that there was no reason to believe Ross presented a threat to public safety.
