NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
Police have released surveillance video of an officer-involved shooting at a gas station last month.
North Charleston police say Timothy Johnson opened fire on Officer David Winslette as he was approaching him at the El Cheapo gas station on Dorchester Road and South Alan Drive. Winslette has since been released from the hospital and is expected to be OK.
Court records say Johnson opened fire on Winslette around 3 a.m. on Jan. 14 as he was approaching him at the gas station at the intersection of Dorchester Road and South Allen Drive.
An affidavit says Winslette was leaving the scene of a home theft on South Allen Drive earlier that morning when he spotted a man that fit the description at the El Cheapo gas station.
A spokesperson for the police department says that without warning, Johnson opened fire on the officer. Johnson allegedly fired four shots, hitting the officer twice; once in the chest and once in the knee.
Johnson fled the scene of the shooting and it was a little more than 12 hours later when he was arrested with two other men. Johnson now faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and assaulting an officer while resisting arrest.
