MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The Horry County Police Department has been in the spotlight since an anonymous letter – making several unsubstantiated claims – was sent to county leaders. But this week SLED found no wrongdoing and the South Carolina Attorney General's Office says it is not proceeding.
Consider This: It bothers me that so much credit was given to anonymous accusations. I understand that there are times when someone wants to speak off the record for fear of retribution, but to give an unsigned letter this much credit is not right.
Now that SLED has found no wrongdoing County Council should come up with a system that allows people to speak freely if they have concerns, but also requires some form of proof of an accusation before launching an investigation.
