MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) South Carolina Highway Patrol has cleared the scene of a fatal accident in Florence County just south of Francis Marion University, reopening a popular street to morning commuters.
According to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins with the SCHP, the crash was on Francis Marion Rd. at Liberty Chapel. The roadway was blocked around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning for about an hour, but lanes have reopened at this time.
Florence Coroner Bubba Matthews has identified the victim as 38-year-old James Keith Ray of Florence. Ray was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident after his car ran the stop sign at the intersection of Francis Marion Road and Liberty Chapel Road, Matthews said.
