CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) – After a week off, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers bounced back in style on Saturday, with a 71-58 win over Charleston Southern. The win completes a season sweep of the Buccaneers, who fell to the Chants in Charleston in overtime earlier this year.
The Chanticleers took an early lead into the locker room, up 32-28 at the half. CCU was paced by Chris Gradnigo, who netted a career high 24 points, including two thunderous throwdowns to spark the Chants in the second half. Kierre Greenwood added 19 points and Anthony Raffa also had 15.
Cliff Ellis' team stepped up on the defensive side as well, as the team tallied six blocks. Charleston Southern only had six turnovers in the game, but a good effort on both sides of the ball helped CCU extend its lead to as many as 13.
It is a quick turnaround for the Chants, who improve to 17-5, and 10-2 in Big South play, who take to the court again on Tuesday against Campbell. They are in sole possession of second place of the conference, and hope to keep pace with first place UNC-Asheville.
