Consider This: Don Cornelius

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) I grew up in the rural South where the TV viewing options were the three over-the-air networks and Saturday mornings were the highlight of the week. It meant cartoons with The Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, American Bandstand and Soul Train.

Consider This: No MTV, You Tube, satellite radio, facebook or Internet. Saturday was the only time we got to see our favorite musicians perform and Don Cornelius and Dick Clark made it special. I can remember trying my best to imitate the iconic Soul Train opening.

In a time of racial tension, Don Cornelius and Soul Train helped to bridge that divide. The show also helped to launch the career of some of the best R & B singers ever.

Hearing of the death of Don Cornelius this week brought back some great memories. It's a time I will never forget and a way of life I wish my kids could experience. This weekend you can enjoy a tribute to Don Cornelius and Soul Train on our own Bounce network. I'll be watching and reminiscing.
