HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) A brush fire that originally sparked Tuesday has now flared up again, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.
Leslie Yancey, spokeswoman for Horry County Fire Rescue, said units were dispatched around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday to Mount Olive Church Road and Long Branch Swamp Road for a fire in the woods. According to Yancey, a caller said flames were visible in the woods.
As a result, Mount Olive Church Road had been closed as units worked the fire, but the road was reopened shortly after 12:15 p.m. Tuesday. Horry County Fire and Rescue advised residents in the area to expect smoke.
The second reported brush fire was in the area of Highway 430 and Nichols Road.
Scott Hawkins with the South Carolina Forestry Commission said they had three units on scene at Highway 430 and N. Nichols Highway, a brush fire with an estimated size between 12 and 15 acres.
No structures were threatened at the time. Downwind of the fire were 15-year-old pines, Hawkins said.
No official cause for that blaze has been determined yet, and conditions in the Pee Dee area could support the fire spreading. Hawkins added that there is not a Red Flag Alert in affect at this time.
