DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) Interdiction deputies in Darlington County have seized a large amount of illegal drugs after stopping a vehicle along Interstate 20 late Saturday night.

A traffic stop of a vehicle traveling along Interstate 20 through Darlington County was initiated after a traffic infraction, but after a brief interview with the suspects, a drug dog was brought to the scene. the drug dog indicated a presence of drugs in the vehicle, after which deputies began a search of the car.

Deputies found eight kilos of cocaine in a hidden compartment in the front seat of the Nissan the suspects were traveling in. Those drugs have a street value of over $500,000.

"When the dog alerted on the car it took some time to find the drugs. There was a hidden compartment that was used to conceal the drugs in a duffel bag" said Sheriff Wayne Byrd.

Byrd also added "8 kilos of cocaine is around 17 pounds and that's a lot of dope off the streets. This has been part of our overall strategy in tackling the drug trafficking through, and around Darlington County."

The two suspects, 49-year-old Jorge Cota of Dallas, TX and 38-year-old Angela Bond of New Caney, TX were arrested and transported to the Darlington County Detention Center, where they await a bond hearing on their drug trafficking charges.
