Erika Gonzalez comes to the WMBF News team by way of sunny Miami, FL. She jumped at the opportunity to join WMBF, relishing the chance to help Pee Dee and Grand Strand viewers get their morning started. And as a lifelong sunshine lover, she's thrilled to call the Grand Stand her new residence, where the familiar palm trees and sandy white beaches have made her feel right at home.
Erika was a Golden Panther at Florida International University (FIU), where she graduated with a dual major in Public Relations and Psychology. In addition, Erika was involved with numerous student organizations, serving as president of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC), and as an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), Phi Alpha Delta Chapter, Partners in Progress, and the FIU Honors College.
Her communications career began in 2008 with The Conroy Martinez Group (CMG), a boutique public relations firm in Miami. In her time there as an Account Coordinator, she got a taste of her passion for the news business and soon discovered that she wanted her future to be in the news room. The feeling was strong enough that she opted to leave behind a strong, growing career in public relations to pursue her lifelong dream of being a TV news reporter.
In the summer of 2010, Erika interned at WPLG, Miami's local ABC affiliate. There, she had the pleasure of shadowing longtime news veterans in an experience that cemented her love for TV news. In the fall of 2010, she took on an intern reporter role at WFOR, Miami's CBS affiliate, where she had the rare opportunity to interview prominent South Florida figures, mainly during the November political elections.
In November 2010, Erika was hired out of her internship to work for WFOR as an assignment editor. In her new role, Erika managed the flow of non-stop breaking news coverage in the vibrant South Florida market, all while sharpening her editorial skills. In March of 2011, she became the on-air host for WFOR's "Deal of the Day," a weekly contest highlighting CBSMiami.com's daily local deal promotion.
And today? She's the WMBF Traffic Tracker and wants to make your morning commute as smooth as possible. In addition, Erika will be reporting the news throughout the Grand Strand. If you see her out and about, she hopes you'll stop her for a friendly hello. Erika's passion for her work and never-ending curiosity about the world around her means no story is too big or too small to cover.
