COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) Seven people were killed along SC roadways during the course of the weekend, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
One of those deaths occurred on an interstate, while the others occurred on U.S. routes, SC roads and secondary roads.
As of Jan. 22, 47 people have died in collisions on the roads, compared to 30 deaths in the same time period in 2011, the SCDPS said.
During the weekend, three victims were not wearing seatbelts while one was wearing a seatbelt. Of the 35 motor vehicle occupants killed, 20 were not wearing seatbelts.
Additionally, two pedestrians and one moped driver were killed in collisions.
The SCDPS said eight pedestrians, one motorcyclist and one bicyclist have died on state roads and highways in 2012.
