HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) A mobile home fire in Hartsville turned deadly when the single victim died following nearly two days of hospitalization.
According to Hartsville Public Information Officer Donald Quist, the Hartsville Fire Department was called to the scene of a structure fire Tuesday night on Collins Avenue after emergency dispatchers received an emergency call that the home was burning around 10:15 p.m.
Quist said another occupant found the home on fire. She and her son then entered the home and pulled the victim, Christopher Barr, out into the yard.
Barr was first taken to Carolina Pines Hospital and later transferred to Augusta Burn Center in Augusta, GA after suffering from burns to 50 percent of his body and severe smoke inhalation.
Despite treatment at the burn center, Barr died Thursday morning from respiratory burns.
Fire officials have not released a cause in the blaze, but say Darlington County deputies are investigating due to the fatality.
