MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Construction on a major off-campus student housing development in Conway, has officially started. Coastal Estates will be a brand new student community along 501.
The new community will offer students 168, four-bedroom apartments. On the property there will be a 20,000 square foot clubhouse and sports complex.
The complex will include a 2-lap Olympic size swimming pool, full-size indoor basketball court, volleyball court, indoor running track, cardio & weight room, 2 aerobics rooms, a game room, an internet café, study rooms, a computer lab, and a club room for TV viewing & gathering. Developers expect to have the majority of rooms and amenities ready before the start of the fall semester.
The developer says this new housing development is in response to the growing undergraduate population at CCU & HGTC and the lack of housing options.
"The growth at Coastal Carolina is phenomenal and we are glad to be part of the housing solution," said Al Shuman, president of Student Investment, Inc.
"Coastal Estates promises to offer the very best in luxury student housing, and will exceed the expectations of CCU & HGTC students and parents."
With safety in mind, the gated community will feature 24-hour surveillance and panic buttons in all bedrooms and living areas.
This new project could pump millions into Horry County's economy. According to the developer, this project will cost $45-50 million and they plan on using local contractors, suppliers and employees to build this project.
Once construction is in full swing, they expect to have on an average day 150 to 200 people working on the site. The first phase of construction officially began two weeks ago and the entire project should wrap up by the end of this year. Coastal Estates will be located at 2515 Highway 501 E, Conway, SC 29526.
