SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The Town of Surfside Beach passed a motion Monday morning to enter into a contract for a new business at the Surfside Beach Pier location.
The motion was passed in a town council special meeting Monday at 9 a.m. It allows the town to enter into a contract with Atlantic Restaurant Group to establish a restaurant in the former Nibils Restaurant location.
According to the proposal to lease commercial restaurant space, the new eatery will be The Surf Restaurant and will be owned and operated by Bill Howard and Shawn Roth.
The proposal adds that Howard and Roth have over collectively 60 years experience in the restaurant industry.
Plans call for the eatery to be a 40 seat seafood house offering "casual- style service of popular Grand Strand fare." The menu will include grilled and fried selections of shrimp, fish, chicken, oversized burgers, and other lunch and dinner items.
The town plans for the proposed owner to take possession of the location as soon as possible and annual rent rates are stated below:
- Year 1 (2012) $50,000
- Year 2 (2013) $52,500
- Year 3 (2014) $55,000
- Year 4 (2015) $57,500
- Year 5 (2016) $60,000
Per the proposal, the town will give the tenant an option to extend the term of the lease for three consecutive five-year terms.
