The Charleston County EMS employee accused of sexually assaulting a female victim in an ambulance has confessed to his crimes, an affidavit says.
According to the court affidavit, 45-year-old Anthony Louis Green, of Goose Creek, admitted to "engaging in sexual battery with the victim" and "knew the victim was physically helpless."
The affidavit states the female victim, who was being taken to the hospital following a domestic violence incident, was immobilized on a backboard "in full c-spine precaution" when she was sexually assaulted by Green.
Investigators say Green was alone in the back of the ambulance with the victim.
Court documents also state that DNA evidence recovered from the victim identifies Green as the offender. He is charged with 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Green was granted a $100,000 bond on Friday morning.
Officials say that Green has been suspended without pay. County officials say Green was hired by Charleston County in July of 1999 as a temporary EMS employee and became a full time employee in May of 2001.
Charleston County spokeswoman Tracey Amick said it is standard practice to have only one EMS worker in the back of an ambulance during transportation of a victim.
Charleston County released the following statement:
"Charleston County Government has been notified of the arrest of an EMS employee, Anthony Green. Charleston County was made aware of the alleged incident on June 10, 2011 and immediately placed the employee on administrative duty with no patient contact under constant supervision, while an investigation by the Town of Mount Pleasant Police Department was occurring.
Upon the arrest, Green has been suspended effective immediately without pay. Charleston County EMS prides itself on providing excellent patient service and is deeply concerned about this situation. As such, Charleston County has been cooperating fully with the Town of Mount Pleasant Police Department throughout this process and will continue to do so."
