MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A mix of local restaurants and national brands will soon be dishing out food for flyers traveling through Myrtle Beach International's new passenger terminal in 2013.
Airport officials gathered Wednesday morning to announce their food vendor selections, which includes two popular restaurant hot-spots from Divine Dining. Nacho Hippo and Bubba's Fish Shack will offer a "local taste" of Myrtle Beach with its signature dishes and drinks.
A new full-menu and boardwalk-themed restaurant will open prior to security checkpoints inside of the new terminal. Right now, only a snack bar offers lighter food options for travelers to take advantage of before passing through TSA. Officials say it's a major complaint and void they hear from passengers.
"When people arrive on airplanes, we want them to know they're in Myrtle Beach," Lauren Morris, spokeswoman for Myrtle Beach International, said. "We want to create an experience for them, and for the folks that come and go, we want them to feel like this is their airport and make something that they can be proud of."
Other food options expected to set up shop in Myrtle Beach International include Steak and Shake, and Dunkin Donuts. Construction crews will start developing the new restaurants in November, and plan on opening the establishments when the terminal opens in January 2013.
Airport officials say the new restaurants are expected to generate 50 to 70 positions.
