HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) Horry County Police have arrested a man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and holding her at gunpoint along a dirt road in April.
According to a police report obtained by WMBF News, officers responded to the South Carolina welcome center located along Highway 17 in Little River on April 24 in reference to an assault. There, they met with the victim who stated her ex-boyfriend had assaulted her earlier that morning.
She told police she had been at her current boyfriend's home when Casey Lebarett Richardson, 26, entered the home, punched her in the jaw and then pulled her outside.
As he was pulling her, the victim said she was able to get away and tried to run, but Richardson was able to catch her, punching her in the head. According to the victim, Richardson forced her into his car and drove her to his home.
At that time, Richardson allegedly got a gun and drove the victim down a dirt road, where he then allegedly forced her out of the car and held her at gunpoint, threatening to shoot her and her boyfriend.
The victim told police Richardson forced her back into his car and took her back to his home, where he again held her at gunpoint and threatened her. Once she told Richardson she wouldn't call the police and begged for her life, Richardson reportedly let her go.
According to the report, officers observed swelling around the victim's mouth and cheek, consistent with being punched. She also had a visible cut on her mouth.
Upon further investigation, Richardson was placed under arrest Tuesday afternoon and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. He has been charged with assault and battery in the first degree as well as kidnapping.
He remains incarcerated at this time.
