HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The incentive granted to the
AvCraft facility at the last Horry County Council meeting found itself back up
for discussion Tuesday night.
Horry County Council by-laws allow for motions voted
on in past meetings to be brought up for discussion in the following meeting.
Councilman Jody Prince brought the motion back up Tuesday night, said Lisa
Bourcier, spokesperson for Horry County.
The $100,000 incentive
voted on in the last meeting, and brought up Tuesday for reconsideration,
concerned the announcement by the Governor's Office and the MBREDC that AvCraft
would be expanding with approximately 150 new
jobs.
Bourcier
said the Council members are looking for more information from the company that
purchased AvCraft, and was awarded the incentive, KnH Aviation Services. The
Council wants to hear from that company about future plans, the health of the
company, distinction between the old AvCraft and the new company as well as where
the money would be going.
The AvCraft
incentive will be brought back up for discussion, when information is presented
from KnH Aviation Services at the next scheduled Committee as a Whole meeting
on Jan.17, Bourcier said.
During the
meeting, council also deferred a third reading of the county and KnH Aviation
Services' lease agreement. AvCraft has held a lease with Horry County since
2005, but a new lease has been agreed upon since the company was purchased in
the fall of 2011. The County and KnH Aviation Services are negotiating a ten-year
lease agreement.
Brad
Lofton, Executive Director for MBREDC, attended Tuesday's council meeting.
Lofton told WMBF News that they are moving forward with expansion with the
incentive awarded by the state, focusing on industry and not politics.
