MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) One man has been charged after firing a weapon at his own car in the city limits of Myrtle Beach.

According to a Myrtle Beach incident report, officers responded to a gas station at the intersection of 70th Avenue and Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach to a reported shooting shortly before 10 a.m. Monday. A witness told police a man shot at a black truck several times with a handgun in the parking lot of the gas station. The suspect was running toward the truck on Kings Highway, but the witness did not know which direction the suspect had come from.

The suspect was located in the area while officers were taking the witness's statement. The incident report obtained by WMBF News states the suspect discarded his 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun in a garbage dumpster.

Ronald Lee Gates, 28, of Knoxville, TN reported his car stolen earlier Monday and claimed he spotted his car at the intersection of 75th Avenue North and Kings Highway, said Cpl Bland with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Gates then fired a shot in the direction of the vehicle, but no one was harmed, Bland said.
