MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) A robbery suspect is still on the run Monday and police are hoping someone will recognize him to help make an arrest.
The incident happened early Saturday morning around 3:45 a.m. at the Gullies at the corner of 16th Avenue North and Kings Highway.
According to store manager, John Smith, the man seen in the surveillance video, obtained by WMBF News, entered the store and continued on to pay for his soda. The store clerk was about to give the man his change when the man reportedly demanded the clerk give him cash while reaching over the counter and into the register.
Smith said the clerk tried to stop the man by pushing him away, but walked away from the scuffle with a cut on his hand. The robber bolted out of the door, managing to get away with about $150.
For Smith, incidents like this one are becoming too common. He's recently seen a spike in robberies at his store. "Any way they can get money, they'll try it. I've been here for 15 years and this is probably the worst I've seen it. This is what, the third incident within 6 months we've had here? We've never had that problem before. "
In an effort to prevent another situation like this from happening, Smith said he is going to install a plexi-glass shield at the counter.
The man police are looking for is described as a black male between 20-25 years old and standing 5'6" tall. Anyone with information should contact Myrtle Beach Police.
