(KMIR/CNN) Hollywood is morning the loss of a beloved, furry movie star.
Cheetah, the chimpanzee sidekick from the Tarzan movies of the early '30s, has died.
A Florida primate sanctuary said Cheetah passed away Christmas Eve after suffering from kidney failure the week prior.
He was roughly 80 years old.
Cheetah appeared in the Tarzan films that starred former Olympic gold medal swimmer Johnny Weissmuller from 1932 through 1934.
The chimpanzee came to the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary from Weissmuller's Florida estate sometime around 1960.
