GILBERT, AZ (KPHO/CNN) Police are investigating a potential hate crime after a 6-foot cross was found in an Arizona couple's front yard on Christmas Eve.
Ignatius Griffin walked out of his front door in Gilbert, AZ, when he discovered the cross in his yard.
"You can see where the burn, the flame ran across," Griffin said.
Attached to the cross was a graphic note tied around it that Griffin believes the culprit was trying to throw through his window.
The Griffins believe they were targeted because they are an interracial couple and he owns his own business as an independent contractor who installs satellites.
"With the "N" word being used, this came here to my home, instead of my vehicle or my office, that's an indicator as well," Griffin said.
Police are investigating, but have not made any arrests.
