BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WMBF) A criminal investigation has been launched after Brunswick County deputies responded to an assault in Leland Monday evening.
Deputies responded to a home on the 300 Block of Lansan Lane Monday night around 10:17 p.m. to a report of an assault in progress. Upon their arrival, deputies entered the home to find 43-year-old Cassey Thomas attempting to stab her husband 48-year-old Timothy Thomas.
Deputies order the suspect, Mrs. Thomas, to drop her weapon, and fired two shots when she failed to do comply.
Cassey Thomas sustained a gunshot wound to her abdomen. Timothy Thomas sustained a gunshot wound to his upper right leg and a stab wound to his upper back.
None of the injuries sustained are life-threatening. Mrs. Thomas may face domestic violence and assault charges.
A criminal investigation is being conducted by the NCSBI, at the request of Sheriff Ingram, in additional to an internal investigation of the shooting conducted by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office of Professional Standards.
