GASTON, SC (WIS) A missing Gaston man was found dead Saturday afternoon with a shotgun next to his body, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
Officials say 68-year-old Edwin James Russell was found in a wooded area close to his home with a gunshot wound to his head.
Edwin had been reported missing by his wife, Mary Russell, around 9:35pm the previous evening after Mary told deputies Edwin had been gone since 11:00am.
Detectives investigating the case are trying to determine if Edwin's gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Sheriff's deputies conducted aerial and ground searches around Edwin's home late Friday night and Saturday until his body was located.
