FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) Officials with the Florence Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on the 900 Block of Oakland Avenue in the early Saturday morning hours.
Several engines and personnel responded around 4:21 a.m. Saturday morning and reported that the structure, an apartment with attached workshop, was heavily involved in fire when they first arrived.
First responders began an aggressive attack with two hand held fire lines controlling the blaze in forty minutes, said Kenneth Carr with the Florence Fire Department. The apartment maintained considerable damage, and is no longer inhabitable.
Carr reported that the occupant of the apartment was not home at the time of the fire and two vehicles and other structures also sustained exterior damage.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
The Local Chapter of the American Red Cross will be assisting the apartment's occupant, Carr said.
