MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The Myrtle Beach Marathon may see more feet hitting the pavement in 2012.

The City of Myrtle Beach has approved a 1,000 runner expansion for the upcoming marathon in February, which will apply to the half-marathon and full marathon events.

The City expects that most of the extra runners signing up to run in the Myrtle Beach Marathon will be participating in the half-marathon event.

During the 2011 event, the City chose to expand the race route, giving more room for additional runners on the race course and the expansion of the event.

An official countdown to the 2012 Myrtle Beach Marathon is ticking away on their website. Register online now.
