NORTON, OH (WEWS/CNN) – A reindeer decided to take a walk down a busy highway in Norton, OH, leaving many to wonder if one of Santa's helpers found his way there after delivering packages.

Police dispatchers responded to numerous calls from surprised drivers who spotted the reindeer walking down the highway Sunday morning.

"She was just walking, she wasn't running, she didn't appear to be badly injured," said Officer Kevin Starling. "She wasn't limping or anything, sort of walking down the road like she knew where she was going."

Starling was the first officer on the scene and with the help of an off-duty firefighter, he was able to grab the animal's harness and lead it to safety.

"I called in on the radio to dispatch and said, ‘OK, I have the reindeer and now I am at a loss, any suggestions anyone has would be great," Starling said.

Callers told dispatchers the reindeer had rolled off the back of a livestock truck. Authorities say the reindeer was being taken to a party when the truck hit a bump, causing the trailer's doors to open just long enough for the animal to fall out.

Officers found out the location of the truck and reindeer was returned to its owner.

Even though the reindeer had a broken antler and road rash, it is walking just fine and the injuries appear to be minor.
