Coroner: Overturned vehicle claims life of passenger in Darlington

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal accident in Darlington County Saturday afternoon.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Brent Kelly reported that a single vehicle accident occurred on I-20 eastbound at mile marker 133 around 3:55 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

The male driver of a 1998 Nissan and his passenger were both wearing seatbelts.

The vehicle was traveling east on I-20 when they ran off the right side of the road, get back on the road, and ran off the road again when their vehicle overturned several times. The driver was transported to the hospital for his injuries.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee identified the passenger as 75-year-old William Howard of Sumter, who died at the scene.

This accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Darlington County Coroner's Office.
