Woman charged with killing homeless man in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) A woman was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with 2nd degree murder.

Police said Johanna Christine Leitch, 38, is charged with killing Richard Alvey Partello III, 43, in a homeless encampment where both were staying. The incident happened Friday night around 7pm.

EMS responded to a wooded area adjacent to Emerson Drive and the 200 block of South Kerr Avenue. Partello was dead from several external wounds.

Police say Leitch has no fixed address.

Witnesses tell police the two were fighting. No cause of death is being released at this point, pending the results of an autopsy Sunday.
