SOUTH CAROLINA (WMBF) - The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control aims at improving food safety at area restaurants through a statewide inspection initiative.
The results, which are made available to the public, are based off of a 100 point checklist that inspects 50 areas of each chosen establishment. The lowest grade a restaurant can receive is a "C" rating, or 70 to 77 points.
The following are two of the latest restaurant inspection results in Little River and Myrtle Beach:

Overall Grade: 88 – A
During a DHEC inspection, the inspector found raw shrimp stored over cooked pasta.
An unclean ice machine and sink were also discovered as well as unclean cabinets and a wall near the buffet area.
Various areas were also said to be in need of cleaning or repair.

Overall Grade: 88 – A
Inspectors found potentially hazardous food, with chicken not cooked to the proper temperature during an inspection.
Raw meat was found stored over raw meat of a lesser cooking temperature, such as chicken stored over beef, pork or fish.
No soap or paper towels were found in a handsink.
Various areas were also said to be in need of cleaning or repair.
