NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The Shiver for the Shelter Golf Tournament at Farmstead Golf Links in Calabash, NC collected more than four tons of pet food for the shelter at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach.
Seventy-four players participated in the golf event, which required 100 pounds of pet food per participant and a $20 per person registration fee. Participants did receive prizes, but the major winner was the humane society, which was given 4.5 tons of food for the shelter animals.
Patricia White-Wisniewski, tournament co-director stated, "The spirit of this event is intended to supplement the food supply of the Society. The fellowship and camaraderie strongly outweighs the competitive nature of the tournament."
Crowned as champions was the team of Mike Siani, Leo Kowalkowski, Ryan DePaw and Mike Depaw Second place went to Billie & Rick Ellwanger and Gerd & Claere Schramm and finishing third were Kathy & Barry Rosenberg and Emily & Dean Campbell.
"We greatly appreciate the efforts of the Shiver for the Shelter tournament committee and volunteers, and of course the support of the sponsors and participants," said Sandi Kendrick, Executive Director of the shelter at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. "Based on the number of animals that we currently have, four and a half tons of food should help us get through the next several months."
The annual golf event has now raised over 65 tons of food for the shelter. For more information or to see how you can get involved, please contact Jeffrey Wisniewski at 843.450.2541 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
