Unattended cooking responsible for Murrells Inlet fire

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a blaze in the Murrells Inlet area Tuesday night, and have now determined the cause of the blaze.

Leslie Yancey, spokesperson for Horry County Fire and Rescue confirmed for WMBF News that units responded to a two-story single family home at 5588 Daybreak Road in Murrells Inlet around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with aid from Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Rescue.

Smoke was showing from the exterior of the home when units arrived, and one male was trapped on the second floor of the home, Yancey said.

The male victim was rescued from the home by ground ladder, and is reported to not have any injuries. The fire in the home was isolated to the kitchen area.

Horry County Fire Rescue fire investigator determined the cause of the fire to be from unattended cooking.
