MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Cold temperatures are pushing back the completion of Harrelson Boulevard by two weeks, officials announced Tuesday.
The multi-million dollar extension project will provide a straight shot through southern Myrtle Beach between US-17 Bypass and Kings Highway. The new completion date for the project is January 23.
Lauren Morris, spokeswoman for Myrtle Beach International, says cold temperatures pose a common problem for road construction projects around this time of the year. She says temperatures have to stay consistently above the 30s for successful paving.
The cost of the project will not rise due to the delay in completion, Morris added. She says officials considered opening the road on schedule, but extra lane closures would be needed to complete work on the road.
Officials say utility work, paving, concrete work and landscaping need to be completed along Harrelson Boulevard before January 23.
