HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Opening statements began Tuesday morning in the murder trial of two men accused of killing a 19-year-old woman in 2011, according to Jimmy Richardson with the Horry County Solicitors Office.
Carnail Graham and Thomas Jones are both on trial. Johnson is not on trial but is still a suspect, according to Richardson.
Her family told WMBF News that she graduated from Conway High School and was preparing to go to college next year.
Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives have developed suspects and persons of interest in connection to Pertelle's violent death.
In early December, Horry County Police made their first arrest in this case.
Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, said Keir Lamont Johnson, 21, of Myrtle Beach was charged with murder.
Further investigation led to the identification and arrests of two other male suspects.
Carnail Marchindla Graham, 25, of Conway and 23-year-old Thomas Booker James, also of Conway, were charged with murder in connection with the Conway teen's death.
Graham was in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on unrelated charges. James is in custody at the Sumter-Lee County Detention Center on another charge, and will be served with these charges when he is extradited to Horry County.
