Horry County, SC – The Salvation Army, in conjunction with Leadership Grand Strand through the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, kicks off The Salvation Army Angel Tree program this week.

The program will officially begin Nov. 11 at Coastal Grand Mall at 6:00 p.m. in front of Belk and Andy Owings Music Center.

Entertainment during the kick-off event includes performances by the Serendipity Singers and Star Performers.

Guest speakers include Myrtle Beach Council woman Susan Grissom Means, a local family that has benefited from the Angel Tree Program and Captain Bret McElroy, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army – Horry County.

The Salvation Army Angel Tree program is designed to bring hope to children during the Christmas season by providing food and toys to those in need.  The program relies on the giving and support of the community to bring joy and happiness to families less fortunate during the Christmas season.

"We are planning to help around 1,500 children this Christmas," said Brenda Ryan, the director of the program.  "We couldn't do what we do without a generous community behind us," Ryan adds.
