MB Seahawks define sportsmanship in first playoff game

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Most sports fans are very aware our area teams are in the middle of high school football playoffs. It may be win or go home for teams around the state, but in Myrtle Beach's win over Hilton Head Friday night there was a moment that defined the word sportsmanship.

The Myrtle Beach Seahawks were leading Hilton Head 64-10 late in the fourth quarter with just a few seconds on the clock. On Hilton Head's roster is a young man with Down's Syndrome by the name of Chip Mullen.

With the game well in hand, Myrtle Beach Head Coach Mickey Wilson gave a signal to the Hilton Head sideline that it was time to allow Chip the chance to score. Mullen ran 75 yards for a touchdown as time expired. As Mullen reached the endzone, his own team and the Seahawks met him there in celebration.

Myrtle Beach was nationally ranked as they began regional play this season, playing at home in the first week of playoffs in the 3A Bracket and Friday night they showed their fans what the Seahawks are really made of: talent and heart.

Friday, Nov 11 Myrtle Beach will advance in the playoffs, hosting Airport at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
