GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WYFF) A
Greenville County assistant principal and former middle school teacher
was arrested Monday, accused of sex crimes against a student from
1984-1986.
William Terry Broadus, 53, was arrested by the Greenville County sheriff's deputies.
Investigators
with the Crimes Against Children Unit received a report alleging that
Broadus had engaged in sexual activity with a student at Lakeview Middle
School during the mid-80s.
According to arrest warrants, the alleged victim is now 41. She was 14 in 1984.The
woman who filed the report said most of the alleged incidents occurred
off school property, but she said at least one incident happened at
Lakeview Middle School, according to Master Deputy Jennings Autrey.
Autrey
didn't give a reason for the time lapse between the alleged crimes and
now, but said there was enough evidence to get a warrant signed.
"A
lot of it is going to be based off the statements, and the
recollection, and all that and, again, we can't go into a lot of details
or what the investigation did yield," said Autrey. "If there are
additional victims, or if somebody believes they're a victim, or if they
were involved in some type of situation, please give us a call and let
us know."
The school district released the following statement:
"The school district was informed this afternoon that a Greenville
County Schools employee, William Broadus, has been charged by the
Sheriff's Department for alleged incidents in the mid-1980s involving
sexual misconduct with a minor. Mr. Broadus was a teacher at Lakeview
Middle School from 1983-1988. Mr. Broadus is currently serving as
assistant principal at Chandler Creek Elementary, where he has served
since August 2000."
Broadus was placed on administrative leave on
Sept. 16, when the administration was first notified by the Greenville
County Sheriff's Department that he was under investigation."
Broadus is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act on a child under 16.A judge set bond on Broadus at a total of $30,000.
If
Broadus gets out of jail, he can't leave South Carolina or get into
trouble. He also can't have any contact with the victim.
