BRUNSWICK COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The Brunswick County Sheriff's
Office says a 14-year-old crashed a stolen car early Saturday morning while leading
deputies on a chase.
Del Routh, spokesman for the Brunswick County Sheriff's
Office, said Wednesday deputies observed a vehicle making a u-turn onto Holden
Beach Road around 4:30 a.m. and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The driver, a 14-year-old juvenile, allegedly accelerated to
try to elude deputies and then flew through a stop sign without stopping. The
chase continued onto Oxpen Road for a short time before the vehicle left the
roadway and struck a utility pole.
When deputies came upon the vehicle, they discovered the
teen and a 16-year-old passenger. Further investigation found the vehicle had
been stolen from the Supply area, and one of the teens was found in possession
of marijuana.
Routh said two tubes of glue were later found outside the
wrecked vehicle by deputies.
Officials have not said at this time if the teens were
arrested or what charges they might be facing. WMBF News will provide that
information as it becomes available.
