Pat Boone Theater delayed again

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Pat Boone Family Theater has delayed its opening once again. Management had the attraction slated to open in late September and before that, during the summer, but the opening was tabled because of construction delays and the loss of the theater's main act.

Magician Morgan Strebler was supposed to be the star act, but is no longer appearing because of health reasons. That leaves the theater searching for a new illusionist.

"We're in talks with several illusionists, again just kind of hand-picking the best that we can bring to this corner because you only have one chance to open and do it right and we want to make sure that it is right," said Kelly Burton, Marketing and Sales Manager.

WMBF News got a look inside the theater, which sits in the old NASCAR Grille building at Highway 17 and 21st Avenue North. The people behind the theater say the building was gutted and rebuilt from the ground up.

Many looking forward to the theater's opening wonder if it will be successful after so many delays.

"The delays dampen the enthusiasm, but the more things we have open the better it is for the total tourism here," said John Hill of Myrtle Beach.

The first few shows are already on schedule and within the days after the grand opening baseball legend Pete Rose and Pat Boone himself are expected to appear.

Owners are not releasing a grand opening date until further notice.
