SBPD to hold safety checkpoint

Posted: Updated:

From the Surfside Beach Police Department

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC The Surfside Beach Police Department will host a multi-jurisdictional public safety checkpoint operation in Surfside Beach on Friday from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Glenn's Bay Road (west of Highway 17 business).

The checkpoint will be staffed with officers from throughout the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, since the operation is part of the statewide Law Enforcement Network (LEN) highway safety program.

Officers from almost every law enforcement agency in Horry and Georgetown counties participate in the operations. SBPD expects approximately 40 officers to participate in Friday night's operation.

Officers will meet prior to the operation to discuss LEN business and brief on the operation.
SBPD Chief of Police Mike Frederick said that the regularly scheduled checkpoints move around to different parts of the two-county area, and are designed solely for the purpose of enhancing motorist safety.

"These operations not only publicize local agencies' dedication to highway safety," Frederick added, "but deter dangerous offenses such as driving under the influence and reckless driving."
