Charleston County deputies and the highway patrol were called out Wednesday morning to I-26 eastbound near exit 212 for an accident involving seven vehicles.

One of the drivers, 36-year-old Pamela Habersham of Beaufort, was wanted for a car-jacking in Port Royal. Authorities say she left the vehicle she was driving at the scene after the crash. She was later found at the corner of Fain Street and Aviation Avenue.

The huge traffic headache left cars at a standstill Wednesday morning. The crash backed up traffic all the way to mile marker 203, near College Park.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says that seven cars were involved in the crash and several people were transported to the hospital.

According to investigators, it all started when Habersham, who was driving erratically, cut off another car and slammed on her brakes causing the accident.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, a deputy responded to the accident around 6:10 a.m. One of the vehicles involved in the accident was found to be stolen and involved in a carjacking in Port Royal.

The deputy was advised that a woman had left the vehicle and the scene. Deputies later located Habersham.

Habersham was placed under arrest for two outstanding traffic citations and transported to the Charleston County Detention Center on a hold for Port Royal authorities. Authorities charged her with leaving the scene of a collision with personal injury, driving under suspension second-offense and reckless driving.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and Port Royal police are investigating the carjacking that occurred in their jurisdiction.

Four drivers who were involved in the Wednesday morning accident were transported by EMS to Roper Hospital and Trident Hospital. Their conditions have not been released.
