Mother of Natalee Holloway speaks in GA

Posted: Updated:

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) The crowd Thursday listened as Beth Holloway recounted details of her last phone call with her daughter, Natalee Holloway, as Natalee packed for spring break in Aruba.

The 18 year old disappeared on that 2005 trip and her presumed death has fueled international media attention ever since.

While Holloway would not discuss details of the case nor prime suspect Jordan Van Der Sloot, she spoke Sept. 8 about what she's tried to do since.

"It was in June 2005 that I made the commitment early on to the authorities and officials handling Natalee's case that I would do everything I could in order to share the hard lessons we had learned to help others hopefully avoid experiencing the nightmare that we did," said Holloway.

In addition to writing a book, she's now the host of a cable television show about unsolved disappearance cases.

"I just try to focus on the work that need to be done and the lives that need to be reached." Said Holloway.

Holloway is in Statesboro to speak at an annual dinner that supports the Boys and Girls Club of Bulloch County.

She says the tragedy of her family's ordeal fits hand and glove with the mission of Boys and Girls Club, educating youngsters, but also protecting them from those that would prey on their innocence.

"It's a safe haven for them. It's where the children learn things about the world around them and are empowered. That's what makes hope real. It is when you do something and that hope becomes real and it becomes tangible," said Holloway.
