Robeson Co. deputies arrest man for murder

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – The Robeson County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man Friday in connection to a robbery and shooting that left a 29-year-old Shannon man dead.

Major Howard Branch, spokesman for the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, said Allen McMillian was found dead at the corner of Rennert and Russell roads just before 4 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies said McMillian and a least three others were in a barn behind a convenience store when he was approached by two armed people.

The suspects allegedly got out of a silver vehicle and were said to be trying to rob McMillian. When he refused to give them money and attempted to flee, he was shot and subsequently killed, according to Branch.

Upon further investigation, including information obtained from witnesses, deputies were led to Walter Everett Lambert, 35, of Lumberton, who Branch said had a criminal history.

Lambert was then arrested at his home along Hammonds Road Friday evening and charged with first degree murder. He is currently being held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
