ROBESON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A medical examiner has positively identified human remains found in Robeson County as a missing Fayetteville woman, and police have arrested a man for murder.
Gavin MacRoberts, spokesman for the Fayetteville Police Department, said Erica Gainey, 24, was last seen leaving her home at 2:30 a.m. on June 28 in her white 2003 Hyundai Elantra. She was said to be with an acquaintance, Terry Dale Robinson, Jr., 44.
According to MacRoberts, Robinson was seen later that morning purchasing bleach and moth balls and was driving Gainey's vehicle.
Officers believed Gainey to have been a victim of foul play during the course of their investigation.
The remains were found the remains were found around 10 a.m. off of Britt Road, east of Saint Pauls, according to Robeson County Sheriff Kenneth Sealey.
MacRoberts said with the positive identification, Robinson has been arrested in connection to Gainey's death and charged with murder and kidnapping. Further investigation revealed Gainey's remains were in Pender County for some time before being transported to Robeson County.
Further details surrounding Gainey's disappearance, the discovery of the remains and Robinson's arrest are unknown at this time.
