HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A motorcyclist has died after an accident along Airport Road Sunday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said the accident occurred near Loris Airport around 12:45 p.m. when the driver of a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle ran off the side of the roadway and hit a tree.
Collins said the driver was traveling northbound and died at a local hospital.
Horry County Coroner Darris Fowler has identified the victim as 29-year-old Jeffrey Bennett of Loris. Fowler said Bennett was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Bennett was an active duty Marine, according to Fowler.
The accident remains under investigation by the SCHP.
