Baby Boy Horry case grows cold with no leads

Posted: Updated:

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) Investigators working to solve the death of the infant known as "Baby Boy Horry" tell WMBF News they now consider it a cold case.

Horry County Police Lt. Jamie DeBari says people have stopped calling in with tips and "right now we have no leads that we are able to follow-up on at this point in time."

Yet, it's one that tears at detectives' heartstrings because the baby had no chance to defend himself, said police spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler.

"So it does mean a lot for our detectives to have the case solved eventually and closure for Baby Boy Horry," he said.

Police are hoping someone knew a girl or woman who was pregnant in the fall/winter of 2008 but, for mysterious reasons, never saw the baby.

Another piece of evidence: the tote bag Baby Boy Horry was found in was part of a special promotion at Bath and Body Works in the months before his life began and ended so quickly.

Meanwhile, Horry County Police tell WMBF News, they expect a major break in the case if Baby Boy Horry's biological parents are ever arrested in the United States and forced to submit a DNA sample.

"We still have the DNA profile," said Lt. DeBari. "And [we're] hoping that we get something, [a] hit back through the DNA profile."

Until then, investigators are urging anyone with information about who the parents could be to call (843) 915-TIPS. You can leave information without revealing your identity, according to Lt. DeBari.
